what's in your share week#5 7/14?

Apologize for the delay-having trouble sending emails today

What's in your share week #5 7/14?

Dear Tuesday CSA Members,

I hope that when you pick up your share today you notice there is a little weight to the box (finally huh?!)

Not too much in the way of diversity, but we did have enough broccoli and squash during the harvest yesterday to pass out a little more than we have been.

The garlic harvest on Sunday went terrific. We have a couple dozen volunteers come out and we got all but one row pulled, (equipment gave out-not the people!!!) I had SO much fun having all the extra help. Next group volunteer activity will be harvesting potatoes-just waiting for Danny to tell me when he'll be ready to dig them-I'm thinking 2 weeks, I'll be sure to follow up with details.

Danny & I decided the best thing for us to do with the garlic was to pass it out in bunches and ask that you do some of the work. Since we have less hands helping on the farm this season it will help us out a great deal if you could handle your own "curing" process-it's easy to do and here are 3 simple steps you'll need to do.
1. Cut the roots off as close to the head of garlic as possible-do this today with a pair of scissors.
2. hang the bunch of garlic in a dry location not in direct light. You'll need to hang the garlic for about 3 weeks.
3. After about 3 weeks of drying the garlic will be ready for you to cut the stalk off on the neck, just above the head. If the garlic head is still a little dirty, just remove the outer sleeve (one layer) and your garlic will be ready for months of use.

The larger heads are a variety called Music the smaller/medium heads are a variety called Purple Glazer.

Instead of passing out 1 head at a time we thought it would be best if we gave you your garlic at once-so I hope you understand why we are passing out garlic this way.

Lettuce is also making a return in your shares today. We should be back on track with lettuce for at least a few more weeks, we're also working hard to keep more lettuce seeded in the greenhouse so we can keep you in greens :)

I've taken lots of pictures and I need to find time to get them posted on the website so you can enjoy the farm too.

What's coming up? Cabbage soon and the beans are starting to flower too. Cucumbers are in blossom so it won't be long for them.

Hope you enjoy your share today!
